He spent the following decade building his reputation with a variety of roles in series including The Tudors, Black Mirror, and Primeval. Leech’s breakthrough came in 2003 with a co-starring role in the Irish film Cowboys & Angels. Shortly afterwards, he began studying Drama & Theatre at the city’s Trinity College, ultimately graduating with a degree and a Master’s. Acting became his life from then on, and he won his first professional stage role aged 17, appearing in a production of A Streetcar Named Desire at Dublin’s Gate Theatre-regarded by many as the home of Irish theatre. He was bitten by the acting bug aged 11 when he was cast as the Cowardly Lion in a school production of The Wizard of Oz.
Leech was born in Killiney, a seaside suburb of Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, in 1981. He has won various ensemble awards, most notably three Screen Actors Guild Awards for Downton Abbey.

He has also appeared in Canadian crime drama Bellevue and historical drama movie The Imitation Game, among many other projects. Irish acting star Allen Leech is best known for playing socialist Irish republican Tom Branson in ITV’s hugely successful period drama Downton Abbey and portraying Freddie Mercury’s controversial manager Paul Prenter in Bohemian Rhapsody.
